We strive to make positive change in the community and to make Port Ellen a better place to work, live and play for the community and future generations to come.

The aim of South Islay Development is to maintain and enhance a sustainable community in the area of South Islay through a strategy of community-led development – addressing issues of deprivation and gaps in provision of service.

SID aims to work with and empower community groups in initiating and supporting projects to make the community an attractive place to work and play.

Central to these aims is that the actions carried out by SID will be informed and led by residents of the South Islay locality.

Port Ellen Playing Fields

The Community Hub will provide a much-needed community facility for the south of Islay. Port Ellen has lost a number of its community facilities in recent times and the new building will provide a thriving facility for all ages, groups and clubs to come together in a welcoming and pleasant environment.

Port Ellen Filling Station

In May 2014 SID took on the ownership and management of the Port Ellen Filling Station, which is the only Filling Station in South Islay. SID improved and expanded the Filling Station services to include a small retail outlet, a new car wash facility, and an air compressor.
