Opening in Summer 2025 the new Pavilion replaces the much-loved old Pavilion, which was well used by the community, from construction in the 1950s, for over 60 years. Unfortunately by Spring 2021 it was in need of extensive internal work, and unsafe to use. The decision was made to replace the building with a new community facility, which would once again bring the community together to enjoy the Playing Fields.
South Islay Development’s voluntary Board members embarked on an ambitious capital project, working in tandem with their design team, and fully supported by a large number of funders, to provide this fantastic facility.
With Planning Permission granted in early 2022 it then took nearly a full year to secure a contractor to carry out the work. Procast, a Hamilton based company, were eventually awarded the tender after a lengthy value engineering process to bring the budget into line with the approved funding.
Despite lengthy delays and challenges during the construction process SID are delighted the new Pavilion is finally complete, and can be enjoyed by the whole community.
Inside the new building there are three fantastic rooms, which have been let out to local businesses, offering them the opportunity to expand. The is also a light, bright café and seating space, served by a kitchen offering delicious meals and snacks, with tremendous views across the bay. This opens into a lovely community room, which can be hired on an hourly basis for meetings, groups, parties and exhibitions. With storage space for local sports clubs, and in close proximity to the bowling green, playpark and tennis court, the new Pavilion aims to be the centre of the Playing Fields, welcoming and encouraging all users to enjoy the surrounding area.
